CAN U17: Morocco held to a draw by Tunisia in their opening match

In the first match of the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco was held to a 1-1 draw by Tunisia on Wednesday. A frustrating start for the Atlas Lions, who may have serious regrets after a poorly initiated match.

Tunisia quickly took advantage of a completely botched start from the Moroccan side. More aggressive and better organized in the opening minutes, the Carthage Eagles opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Jlidy, putting the Moroccans under pressure during a difficult first half.

Upon returning from the locker room, Morocco showed a completely different face, with more intensity and control in their play. The Lionceaux were finally rewarded in the 76th minute thanks to Hadidi, who scored the equalizer. A deserved comeback, but insufficient to secure all three points.

This match will leave a bitter taste for the Moroccans, who may regret several key moments, including a strong tackle that could have warranted a red card, as well as a penalty that was not awarded. Despite this draw, Morocco will need to quickly regroup for the remainder of the group stage.
