Issa Diop will need to exercise caution if the Moroccan staff decides to field him against Haiti during the final group stage match of the 2026 World Cup. Already cautioned in this competition, the defender for the Atlas Lions is at risk of suspension should he receive another yellow card.
In this edition of the World Cup, isolated yellow cards are annulled at the end of the group stage. In other words, if Issa Diop finishes this first round with just one warning, he will enter the round of 16 with a clean disciplinary record. Conversely, receiving a second yellow card against Haiti would automatically result in a suspension for the first match of the knockout stage.
This factor could weigh heavily in Mohamed Ouahbi’s decisions. While Morocco is already well-placed in its group before facing Haiti, the coach may be tempted to protect certain players at risk to avoid a suspension in the next round.
