Yassir Zabiri scores at Camp Nou despite Racing’s heavy defeat

Yassir Zabiri continues to impress in La Liga. Starting on the bench against FC Barcelona this Wednesday evening, the Moroccan forward took advantage of his substitution to find the back of the net, although he could not prevent Racing Santander’s heavy defeat at Camp Nou (7-2) during the 6th round of the Spanish championship. 

The Atlas Lion notably capitalized on an error by Wojciech Szczęsny, who came on at halftime in goal for the Catalans. Zabiri put the Polish goalkeeper under pressure before stealing the ball to score Racing’s second goal, temporarily bringing the score to 4-2. Barcelona then resumed their dominance to ultimately secure a comfortable victory, bolstered by a hat-trick from Raphinha. 

This goal further confirms the excellent start to the season for the Moroccan. Before this match, Zabiri had already scored 5 goals in 5 rounds of La Liga, including a hat-trick against Elche and a brace against Deportivo Alavés. He achieved these five goals in just 280 minutes, with three starts. 

With his goal against Barça, the 21-year-old now has a total of 6 goals in 6 appearances in La Liga. This is a remarkable efficiency for someone who began the first two rounds of the championship as a substitute before gradually earning his place in the Racing squad. Despite the difficult evening experienced collectively at Camp Nou, Zabiri continues his particularly prolific start to the season in Spain.
