The Venezia FC officially announced on Saturday the arrival of Moroccan central defender Redouane Halhal. The 23-year-old player joins the Italian club on a permanent transfer from KV Mechelen and has signed until June 30, 2030.
Born in Montpellier on March 5, 2003, Halhal was trained at Montpellier HSC before moving to Atlético de Madrid in 2023 to continue his development. A year later, he headed to the Netherlands to sign with Helmond Sport, where he played 32 matches and scored one goal. His performances then opened the doors to KV Mechelen, with whom he made 34 appearances, scored one goal, and provided two assists last season.
A Moroccan international, Redouane Halhal chose to represent the Atlas Lions after one appearance with France’s U17 team. Having played for the Moroccan U20 and U23 teams, he now has five caps with the senior national team, including two during the last World Cup. He notably played the full matches against Canada and Haiti.
Upon signing, the Moroccan defender expressed his enthusiasm for taking on this new challenge in Serie A: “Director Antonelli presented me with an ambitious project that convinced me from the very first moment. Joining Venezia represents a fantastic opportunity. The city is beautiful, the stadium is superb, and the training center offers all the conditions to work in the best environment. I am very happy to be here and eager to wear this jersey.”
The new Venezia player also described his profile as a modern defender: “I consider myself a defender with a strong character. I like to play the ball cleanly from the back, carry the ball when spaces open up, and put my teammates in the best positions. I have heard a lot about the passion of the supporters, and I can’t wait to play in front of them. It is a great pride to defend these colors, and I will give my all to live up to the trust that has been placed in me.”
With this signing, Venezia acquires a young defender who is already experienced on the international stage and has great potential, while Redouane Halhal takes a new step in his career by discovering the Italian league.
