The Moroccan national team of local players has once again made an entire nation proud by claiming their third historic crown in the African Nations Championship (CHAN). After a thrilling final, the Atlas Lions managed to overcome the surprise challenge from Madagascar, securing their dominance in African football for local players.

Facing a surprising Madagascar team that opened the scoring with a sublime shot in the ninth minute, the Atlas Lions showed character to win 3-2. After Mehri’s equalizer with a header in the 26th minute and Lamlioui’s go-ahead goal just before halftime, the Malagasy surprise struck again in the second half, bringing the score to 2-2. But Morocco’s determination, led by the explosive Lamlioui, never wavered. The striker scored his most valuable goal in the 80th minute, giving Morocco a crucial victory and sealing the title.

This triumph, Morocco’s third consecutive CHAN title, bears the mark of one man in particular: Oussama Lamlioui. The striker scored a decisive brace in the final, showcasing an exceptional goal-scoring ability throughout the tournament. His performance, worthy of the greatest forwards, earned him the title of top scorer with an impressive total of six goals. Lamlaoui thus follows in the footsteps of illustrious Moroccan predecessors, such as Ayoub El Kaabi (top scorer of CHAN 2018) and Soufiane Rahimi (top scorer of CHAN 2021), continuing a tradition of outstanding goal scorers. To top it off, his decisive performance in the final also earned him the Man of the Match award, highlighting his central role in this historic victory.

The Moroccan performance, however, was not limited to Lamlioui’s individual performance or the strong group of talented players. Another player stood out for his talent and leadership on the field: Mohamed Rabie Hrimat. The midfielder was the team’s true compass, orchestrating the game and dictating its rhythm. His high-level performances throughout the competition left no doubt about his influence, and he was logically rewarded with the prestigious prize for the Best Player of CHAN 2024.

Confirming its supremacy in local players’ football, Morocco not only lifted a third historic crown in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) but also earned a $3.5 million prize. This triumph, the result of the remarkable work of coach Tarik Sektioui and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, crowns a policy of promoting and developing local talent, once again showcasing the success of a model that makes the entire nation proud.
