Yassir Zabiri could not have dreamed of a better start as a starter in La Liga. Starting from the beginning with Racing Santander against Elche, the Moroccan forward scored all three goals for his team in the victory achieved this Friday at El Sardinero (3-2) during the third matchday of the Spanish championship.
The 21-year-old player opened the scoring in the 15th minute, taking advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Matías Dituro. He doubled the lead six minutes later after a through ball from Iván Martín, before completing his hat-trick in the 36th minute by converting a cross from Iñigo Vicente. Three goals in just 21 minutes allowed Racing to lead 3-0 before halftime.
Zabiri left the pitch to applause in the 69th minute, replaced by Asier Villalibre. Elche then brought the match back to life thanks to Buba Sangaré (78th) and Fer Niño (79th), but the Cantabrian club maintained its advantage to secure its first victory of the season.
This performance also allows Zabiri to enter the history of the championship. According to data from Opta, he becomes the fourth Moroccan to score a hat-trick in La Liga in the 21st century, after Youssef En-Nesyri, Youssef El-Arabi, and Mounir El Hamdaoui. Loaned by Stade Rennais, the U20 World Cup champion thus spectacularly kicks off his Spanish adventure.
