Morocco may have taken a significant lead in the race to host the final of the 2030 World Cup. According to the Spanish media outlet The Objective, the Kingdom now has a majority of support within the FIFA Council, ahead of the Spanish bids from Santiago Bernabéu and Camp Nou.
The newspaper claims that Morocco could count on 22 of the 37 members of this body. This progress is notably linked to the efforts of Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, as well as Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States. The Objective also mentions support from several international partners, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as the alleged backing of Donald Trump and the close relationship between Fouzi Lekjaa and Gianni Infantino.
The future Grand Stade Hassan II, being constructed in the Casablanca region, is one of the main arguments for Morocco’s bid. With a projected capacity of around 115,000 spectators, the venue could become one of the largest stadiums in the world and offer FIFA significant prospects in terms of ticketing and revenue. In light of this option, Spain is now considering Camp Nou as an alternative to Santiago Bernabéu.
However, no official decision has yet been announced by FIFA. The international body has only confirmed that Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will co-host the 2030 World Cup, with three commemorative matches taking place in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The choice of the stadium that will host the final remains open, despite the advantage now attributed to Morocco by the Spanish press.
