The Egyptian international goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir paid a heartfelt tribute to Yassine Bounou following the Moroccan keeper’s performances during the 2026 World Cup. The Al Ahly player notably placed the Atlas Lion among the greatest goalkeepers in the history of Arab football.
During his interview, Shobeir explained that Yassine Bounou had sent him a message after Egypt’s match against Argentina. The Egyptian goalkeeper also indicated that he had exchanged thoughts with the Moroccan international regarding his penalty technique.
“Yassine Bounou is an exceptional goalkeeper and a wonderful person. We are always in touch. He sent me a message after the match against Argentina,” Mostafa Shobeir shared. He then explained that he, in turn, had communicated with the Moroccan keeper after one of his penalty saves during the Lions of the Atlas’ journey.
Impressed by the way Bounou had saved a shot without anticipating his dive, the Egyptian goalkeeper reportedly asked him for explanations about his technique. “I contacted him after the penalty he saved while remaining standing,” he clarified.
Mostafa Shobeir ultimately expressed his admiration for the Al-Hilal goalkeeper: “He is among the best goalkeepers in the history of Arab football. Being compared to him is an honor for me.”
