South Africa and Morocco will face off in the U20 AFCON final after their respective 1-0 victories over Nigeria and Egypt. This highly anticipated showdown will take place on Sunday, May 18, in Cairo.

South Africa surprised Nigeria at the Suez Canal Stadium. Yet, the Nigerians started the match strong, dominating the first half. The duo of Tahir Maigana and Ismaël Isaac Ayma had several attempts. However, the South Africans changed pace after the break. In the 66th minute, Néo Duncan Rapoo crossed the ball to Nylon Christopher Smith, who delivered an unstoppable header. Nigeria pushed forward afterward but lacked efficiency. The South African defense stayed focused until the final whistle.

Morocco, on the other hand, eliminated Egypt in a tense derby. The young Pharaohs began with intensity, but the Moroccan defense left no space. Gradually, the Atlas Cubs took control of possession. In the second half, the introduction of Jones El-Abdellaoui gave new energy to the attack. Following a run by Ismaël Aouad, the Celta Vigo player scored the winning goal in the 77th minute. Despite some late pressure, Egypt couldn’t break through.

This final brings back memories of the 1997 edition, also won by Morocco. This time, South Africa will aim for their first title, while Morocco will look to confirm their status. Suspense is guaranteed.
