OGC Nice and the Moroccan national team are facing some bad news. After a successful start to the season, Sofiane Diop saw his momentum come to a sudden halt this Saturday against Paris Saint-Germain.
Having avoided injuries for several months, the Moroccan attacking midfielder has been performing at a high level under Franck Haise, with six goals and one assist in ten Ligue 1 matches. Becoming the technical leader of the Aiglons, Diop embodies the success of the Côte d’Azur club since the summer.
Surprise at kickoff: the former Monégasque started on the bench before coming on in the 46th minute. However, his return was short-lived. Physically affected, he was forced to leave the field in the 72nd minute, visibly struggling.
This injury comes just days before Hoalid Regragui announces his list of selected players for the November gathering of the Lions of the Atlas, in preparation for friendly matches against Mozambique and Uganda. Further examinations will determine the exact nature of the injury, in coordination with the medical staff of the Moroccan national team.
A tough blow for Diop, who seemed to have definitively turned the page on his physical troubles.
