Samir El Mourabet: “In a small space, I like that… I attempted the nutmeg”

RC Strasbourg ended Lyon’s winning streak by winning at the Meinau (3-1). In this important victory, Samir El Mourabet played a crucial role in the midfield and particularly stood out by being the catalyst for the penalty that ultimately secured Strasbourg’s lead in the final quarter of the match.

A complete match, and the action that turned the end of the game

The Racing built their advantage thanks to goals from Martial Godo (37th minute) and Diego Moreira (52nd minute), before Lyon responded through Corentin Tolisso (59th minute).

However, it was in the final minutes that El Mourabet, 20 years old, made the decisive play: in the penalty area, the Strasbourg midfielder eliminated Clinton Mata with a nutmeg before being fouled. After consulting the VAR, referee Ruddy Buquet awarded a penalty, converted by Joaquín Panichelli for the 3-1 scoreline.

    A constant influence in midfield

Beyond this decisive action, El Mourabet delivered a complete performance: present in recovery, clean in distribution, and available between the lines, he embodied Strasbourg’s balance in a demanding match.

At the final whistle, the player emphasized the importance of the result:

“It’s an important victory that does us good. We took the three points today, that’s what we needed, and nothing else.”

He also praised the collective strength, despite moments of pressure:

“We managed to stay solid, even while scoring goals.”

    “I like these situations”

Reflecting on the penalty action, El Mourabet explained his choice in a tight space, owning his move:

“I was one-on-one in the box. I like small spaces like that. I attempted the nutmeg, and I got through.”
