Mohamed Ouahbi did not hide his admiration for Yassine Bounou. Asked this Thursday at a press conference about the Moroccan internationals in contention for various individual awards, the coach of the Atlas Lions placed the Al Hilal goalkeeper at the very top of the global hierarchy for his position.
“Yassine Bounou is a legend for us, he is the best goalkeeper in the world,” Ouahbi stated, emphasizing that there is no debate about the Moroccan keeper’s level. The coach believes that Bounou no longer really needs an introduction, as his performances speak for him with each appearance.
At 35 years old, Bounou is indeed among the ten goalkeepers selected for the 2026 Yachine Trophy. The Moroccan international is competing with Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martínez, Édouard Mendy, David Raya, Unai Simón, Gregor Kobel, Joan García, Matveï Safonov, and Vozinha. This new nomination particularly rewards his performances with Al Hilal and his journey with the Atlas Lions.
Mohamed Ouahbi also expressed his hope to see Moroccan representatives rewarded at the upcoming Ballon d’Or ceremony. In addition to Bounou, the coach mentioned Achraf Hakimi and Ayyoub Bouaddi among the Moroccan players present in the various categories, hoping to see at least one of them leave with a trophy.
