KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - JUNE 25: Head coach Ronald Koeman of the Netherlands looks on before the first half of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group F match between Tunisia and Netherlands at Kansas City Stadium on June 25, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Netherlands national team coach, Ronald Koeman, refuses to approach the World Cup Round of 16 match against Morocco with excessive confidence. Having qualified at the top of Group F after their victory against Tunisia, the Dutch will face the Atlas Lions in Monterrey, in a match that promises to be particularly challenging.

Asked after his team’s success, Koeman emphasized the quality of the Moroccan squad. “I’m not sure we are favorites against Morocco,” said the Dutch coach, adding, “We need to prepare for Morocco, as it will be a great match. They are a good team with a lot of quality, and they can score easily.”

This statement confirms the respect the Dutch staff has for the Atlas Lions, who had a solid first round in a tough group. Morocco finished second in Group C behind Brazil, only edged out on goal difference, after a draw against the Seleção, a victory against Scotland, and a win against Haiti.

Koeman also declined to look further ahead in the competition. For him, the priority remains this direct confrontation against Morocco. “I don’t think we are in a situation where we can think about that yet. We are heading towards our real test, and that’s what we will prepare for,” he stated.

The Dutch press has also focused on Ismael Saibari, one of the most prominent Moroccan players since the start of the tournament. Having played for PSV Eindhoven, the attacking midfielder of the Atlas Lions is well-known in the Netherlands. Koeman highlighted the need to keep a close eye on him, not only for what he has shown in the Eredivisie but especially for his impact in this World Cup.

Morocco will therefore approach this encounter with a status taken very seriously by their opponent. Facing an offensive Dutch team, first in their group and already very effective in front of goal, the Atlas Lions will need to respond with their rigor, intensity, and ability to exploit spaces. This clash between the Netherlands and Morocco is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated matches of the early knockout phase.
