Morocco now knows its opponent for its first match in the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup. Finishing second in Group C behind Brazil, the Atlas Lions will face the Netherlands, who topped Group F after defeating Tunisia, in the Round of 16.

The Oranje secured their top spot with a controlled victory over Tunisia (3-1) on the final day of the group stage. Already in a favorable position before this match, the Dutch team confirmed its strength in a group that also included Japan and Sweden. With this win, the Netherlands enters the knockout stage with confidence, following a group stage marked by a gradual rise in performance.

For Morocco, this matchup promises to be a real test against a nation accustomed to major international tournaments. After finishing second in a challenging group that included Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti, the Atlas Lions must now take another step forward to continue their journey in the competition.

This confrontation will also have a special flavor. Morocco, buoyed by an ambitious generation already capable of competing with the best teams, will face a Dutch side rich in individual talent. The Atlas Lions will need to keep an eye on Cody Gakpo, Xavi Simons, Memphis Depay, and Brian Brobbey, not to mention the influence of Frenkie de Jong in midfield and the experience of Virgil van Dijk in defense.

Mohamed Ouahbi’s men will thus have the opportunity to confirm the promises shown during the group stage. Against the Netherlands, the stakes will be higher, but Morocco has already demonstrated its ability to rise to the occasion in major matches. Defensive discipline, offensive efficiency, and management of key moments will be crucial elements in hoping to continue their adventure.

The objective is now clear for the Atlas Lions: to secure a place in the Round of 16 and extend their journey in this 2026 World Cup. Facing a high-level opponent, Morocco will need to deliver a complete performance to keep its supporters dreaming.
