After the 1-1 draw against Mali on Sunday at the Grand Stade de Tanger, Yassine Bounou chose to focus on the positive lessons from the gathering of the Lions of the Atlas.
As the starter and captain against the Malian Eagles, the Moroccan goalkeeper believes this match was an interesting test for the national team, faced with an opponent capable of posing greater challenges.
Despite the disappointment of not finishing this international window with another victory, Bounou considers the overall outcome to be satisfactory. For the Lions of the Atlas goalkeeper, such confrontations should also allow the group and the coaching staff to identify areas for improvement ahead of upcoming challenges.
Mali demonstrated its ability to trouble Morocco right from the start of the match, notably forcing Bounou to intervene on a shot from Mamadou Doumbia. The Moroccan goalkeeper was decisive again in the second half before ultimately conceding the equalizer from Gaoussou Diarra in the 77th minute.
Morocco had previously taken the lead thanks to Abdessamad Ezzalzouli but failed to maintain that advantage until the final whistle.
This draw ends the Lions’ winning streak during this gathering, yet Bounou does not believe it undermines the work done. The Moroccan captain sees this match against a competitive Malian side as a valuable experience for Mohamed Ouahbi and his staff.
Bounou’s measured perspective comes as the performance of the Lions of the Atlas against Mali raised more concerns than in their previous outings.
