On the eve of the Round of 16 match in the 2026 World Cup against Canada, Mohamed Ouahbi sent a clear message to his players. Present at a press conference on Friday, July 3, at the NRG Stadium in Houston, the national coach refused to entertain any overconfidence ahead of this decisive encounter.
“I consider this Round of 16 match to be one of the most important of my career. If we are not up to the task, we will go home, regardless of the opponent we face,” said Mohamed Ouahbi, aware of the significance of this match for the Atlas Lions.
The Moroccan coach also emphasized the need to raise the level of play compared to previous matches. For him, the performances displayed since the start of the tournament will not be enough against an ambitious Canadian team, buoyed by its home crowd and its status as the host nation.
“The level we showed in the first matches will not win us tomorrow’s game. What will help us win against Canada is what we show on the field tomorrow,” he added, reminding that each knockout match demands a higher level of performance.
Against Canada, Morocco must therefore confirm its solidity, discipline, and effectiveness in key moments. At this stage of the competition, the Atlas Lions know that even the slightest lapse can be very costly.
