Mohamed Ouahbi took advantage of his pre-match press conference to address several important issues ahead of the Round of 16 match in the 2026 World Cup against Canada. The national coach specifically commented on the physical condition of Chadi Riad and the criticisms aimed at Brahim Díaz.
Injured in the knee during the previous match, Chadi Riad remains uncertain for this encounter. However, the Moroccan defender participated in training, which leaves open the possibility of him being available against Canada.
“Chadi Riad was injured in the knee during the last match, but it’s not as serious as that. He was with us in training. We will assess his health status today and his likely presence tomorrow. Only players who are 100% ready will be fielded against Canada,” explained Mohamed Ouahbi.
The Moroccan coach also took the time to defend Brahim Díaz, who has faced criticism for a performance deemed below expectations. For Ouahbi, the Real Madrid player remains an essential element of the Moroccan setup, particularly due to his technical quality, mobility, and ability to create space.
“People say that Brahim Díaz hasn’t had great matches, apart from his assists. I am very happy with his assists. With great players, we are always more demanding. There are many matches left. He is a fantastic player,” he stated.
Beyond statistics, Ouahbi seems to particularly appreciate Brahim Díaz’s influence on the collective balance of the Atlas Lions. Against Canada, Morocco will need its key players at their best to continue their journey in this World Cup.
