The departure of Khalil Fayad is now official. The Franco-Moroccan midfielder is leaving Montpellier HSC permanently to join Hajduk Split. The 22-year-old player has signed a contract until the summer of 2029 with the Croatian club, which is competing in the Conference League this season. He will wear the number 8.
Present on Sunday in the stands of Poljud Stadium during Hajduk’s victory against Lokomotiva Zagreb (2-0), Fayad will join his new teammates for training starting Wednesday. The financial details of the transfer have not been disclosed by either club.
“I am very happy to sign with a club rich in great tradition and supported by wonderful fans,” Fayad stated. The midfielder explained that his transfer was concluded very quickly after discussions with Hajduk’s management. Mathieu Acapandié, his former teammate with the French youth teams, also helped him in his decision by talking about the club, the team, and the atmosphere in Split.
Sporting director Robert Graf presents the new recruit as a technical and versatile midfielder, capable of playing in the number 6, 8, or 10 positions. The Croatian official particularly highlighted his vision of the game, passing quality, and ability to move between the opposing lines.
Trained at Montpellier HSC since the age of seven, Khalil Fayad is leaving his formative club and French football for the first time. He has made a total of 95 appearances in all competitions wearing the Montpellier jersey. A French international up to the U20 category, the Montpellier native also holds Moroccan nationality and remains eligible to represent the Atlas Lions.
