Azzedine Ounahi’s future could take a new turn. While Ajax Amsterdam seemed to have taken a lead in securing the services of the Moroccan international, the Saudi club Al-Ittihad has now entered the race and could disrupt the situation thanks to its financial power.
According to journalist Gianluigi Longari, discussions between Ajax and the 26-year-old midfielder are well advanced, and a definitive agreement with the player is close. However, negotiations with Girona, where Ounahi is under contract until June 2030, remain to be finalized. The Dutch club is looking to lower the transfer fee, while the Lion of the Atlas’s contract includes a release clause estimated at 25 million euros.
This situation benefits Al-Ittihad, which has financial resources far superior to those of Ajax. The Saudi club is reportedly ready to offer a higher transfer fee as well as a significantly more attractive salary to convince Ounahi to join the Saudi Pro League. For now, however, there are no indications that the Moroccan is tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia.
Having had a standout performance at the 2026 World Cup with the Lions of the Atlas, Azzedine Ounahi is generating increasing interest in the transfer market. Ajax remains the club most advanced in discussions, but Al-Ittihad’s offensive could reshuffle the cards in the coming days if an official offer is submitted to Girona.
