Hakimi before Morocco-Brazil: “We are ready to die on the field for the Moroccan people”

Captain of the Atlas Lions, Achraf Hakimi displayed unwavering determination during the press conference on Friday, June 12, alongside coach Mohamed Ouahbi.

The Paris Saint Germain full-back emphasized the equal chances against Brazil: “In a major tournament, there are no favorites. It will be 50-50. Brazil has quality, but so do we. It will be a balanced match. The details will make the difference, but we hope it will turn in our favor. We need to score and defend well, especially.”

Hakimi also highlighted the collective strength of the group: “We are ready to die on the field for Nayef Aguerd, Ez Abde, and the Moroccan people.” A strong message that reflects the cohesion and extreme motivation of the Lions on the eve of the 2026 World Cup.

The captain further underscored Morocco’s ambition: “We want to have a great World Cup, and we are ready for that. It’s up to us to start well tomorrow against Brazil.” He added that Morocco, often referred to as “the Brazilians of Africa,” has what it takes to surprise: “We know Brazil’s quality. But we also have quality. With the support of the Moroccan people, we are ready to achieve something great.”

Hakimi concluded on a positive note, implicitly thanking the staff for their management (notably the rest days granted after the Champions League final) and stressing the importance of focus: one match at a time, with total concentration on this opening match against the Seleção.

With such a captain, the Atlas Lions approach this opening clash with a conqueror’s mentality. See you Saturday night at MetLife Stadium to confirm these great intentions.
