Khalil Fayad is nearing a departure from Montpellier Hérault. The Moroccan midfielder arrived in Split on Monday, where he watched from the stands of the Poljud Stadium during the league match between Hajduk and Lokomotiva Zagreb. His presence in Croatia confirms that his transfer is in its final stages.
The 22-year-old player must now undergo a medical examination before signing his contract and being officially presented by Hajduk Split. Croatian media report a commitment of three seasons, while the final details of his departure from Montpellier still need to be finalized.
Asked upon his arrival, Fayad expressed his enthusiasm for his new surroundings. “I like the stadium and the atmosphere. It’s not too hot, the weather is similar to Montpellier,” he told Croatian media outlet 24sata from the stands of Poljud.
Trained at MHSC, Fayad can play as a central midfielder, in a more defensive role, or behind the attackers. He has made 94 appearances with the Montpellier first team, including 67 in Ligue 1. Also courted by Widzew Łódź and Almería, he ultimately chose Hajduk, who qualified for the Conference League this season. The official announcement of his arrival could occur as early as Tuesday if his medical examination reveals no issues.
