Gessime Yassine was one of the key players in RC Strasbourg’s victory against Newcastle this Sunday at St James’ Park. Coming on in the 67th minute, the Moroccan international helped his team secure a draw (1-1) before a successful Alsatian win in the penalty shootout (3-2).
While Newcastle had been leading since the 38th minute thanks to William Osula, Yassine needed only two minutes to make his mark. Served by Giovanni Reyna in the box, the 20-year-old winger equalized with a right-footed shot placed in the top corner of the opposing goal.
The Moroccan could even have given Strasbourg the victory before the end of regular time. In stoppage time, his left-footed attempt from the right side of the box hit the post. He then perfectly converted his penalty during the shootout, directly contributing to Strasbourg’s success.
This particularly successful appearance allows Gessime Yassine to finish the preparation on a very positive note. Scoring, dangerous, and precise in the penalty shootout, the Lion of the Atlas is making a strong impression just days before the start of the new Ligue 1 season.
