Morocco is set to lose a position in the FIFA world rankings after its draw against Mali (1-1) this Sunday in Tangier. The Atlas Lions temporarily slip to sixth place in the world, overtaken by Brazil.
Before this match, Morocco held a historic fifth place in the world. However, the draw against the Malian Eagles costs Mohamed Ouahbi’s men valuable points.
At the same time, Brazil dominated India (4-0) in a friendly match in Kolkata. This victory allows the Seleção to move ahead of Morocco. Brazil now has a provisional total of 1806.51 points, compared to 1805.34 points for the Atlas Lions, a mere 1.17 points difference.
Morocco has not lost much ground, but it directly pays for its inability to maintain its lead against Mali after scoring first through Abdessamad Ezzalzouli.
This sixth position remains provisional pending the official update of the FIFA rankings, scheduled for October 7. The Lions, however, remain firmly among the best national teams in the world and are only a few points behind Brazil.
