Samir El Mourabet made his return to the pitch this Saturday with RC Strasbourg against AS Monaco. The Moroccan midfielder came on in the 81st minute, marking his return to competition after serving a two-match suspension imposed by the LFP’s disciplinary committee.
The Strasbourg player had been sanctioned following his expulsion against Olympique de Marseille on the opening day of Ligue 1. At the hour mark, after a clash with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, El Mourabet deliberately kicked the Danish midfielder in the calf while the ball was no longer in play. Alerted by VAR, referee Ruddy Buquet reviewed the footage before issuing a direct red card.
The FFF’s refereeing department subsequently upheld this decision, stating that the kick was intentional and unrelated to an attempt to play the ball, thus qualifying the action as an “act of brutality.” A few days later, the LFP’s disciplinary committee imposed a two-match suspension on the Moroccan.
After missing the next two matches for Strasbourg, El Mourabet was able to rejoin the squad against Monaco. His appearance in the 81st minute now allows him to resume his season and make himself available to his coach for the upcoming fixtures of Racing.
