Omar El Hilali delivered a standout performance this Saturday during Espanyol Barcelona’s victory over Osasuna (0-2) in the 5th round of La Liga. As a starter, the Moroccan international provided two assists and significantly contributed to his team’s success at El Sadar.
The two goals for Espanyol were scored by Roberto Fernández, who now has a total of five goals in the league this season. Very active in his flank, El Hilali made an important offensive contribution and confirms the more ambitious role now entrusted to him in Manolo González’s setup.
This performance is even more symbolic as the Moroccan defender celebrated his 23rd birthday on Saturday. Just a few days earlier, El Hilali expressed that he felt “very happy” with his new role, which allows him to operate closer to the opponent’s penalty area. Against Osasuna, he perfectly illustrated this evolution in his game.
Already prominent against Sevilla FC in the previous round, where he had a goal that was ultimately disallowed after a VAR intervention, El Hilali is thus confirming his excellent start to the season. His rise in form also serves as an interesting signal for potentially securing a regular spot with the Atlas Lions.
