The captain of the Atlas Lionesses, Ghizlaine Chebbak, was named African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards 2025 held Wednesday night in Rabat. This new accolade for the Moroccan playmaker symbolizes the rapid progress of women’s football in the country.
As the undisputed leader of the national team and a key player for AS FAR, Chebbak once again made her mark this year with her performance level, consistency, and influence on the Lionesses’ results. Her game sense and ability to turn matches around were crucial in this continental recognition.
The final list of nominees also reflected the strong Moroccan presence in this category. Alongside Chebbak were Sanaa Mssoudy, a forward for AS FAR and Moroccan international, as well as Nigerian Rasheedat Ajibade, a player for Paris Saint-Germain.
The trophy was presented to Chebbak by CAF President Patrice Motsepe in front of an enthusiastic Moroccan audience. This honor crowns an exemplary career and reinforces the growing status of the Atlas Lionesses on the African stage.
