Bavarians React to Luis Diaz’s Red Card Following Tackle on Hakimi

The expulsion of Luis Diaz marked the match between Bayern Munich and PSG. In the 45ᵉ+3 minute, the Colombian was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Achraf Hakimi, with both feet off the ground, trapping the Moroccan’s left ankle. In tears, the Parisian full-back left the field supported by the medical staff.

At the moment, several Bayern players contested the decision made by Maurizio Mariani, before later acknowledging the seriousness of the action.

“Lucho was frustrated about losing the ball,” acknowledged Joshua Kimmich on Prime Video. “He slipped and Hakimi found himself in front of him. It’s impressive when you look back at the footage.”

Present close to the action, Vincent Kompany also tempered his judgment after the match.

“At first, I didn’t think it was that serious,” the Bayern coach told Sky Austria. “It’s a shame that Hakimi had to leave injured. When a player gets injured, I always think back to what happened to Musiala against PSG. I just hope Hakimi returns quickly.”

For his part, Manuel Neuer felt that the punishment might seem harsh, while regretting the way the referee communicated his decision:

“He could have simply spoken to our captain. It was unnecessary to call me to the middle of the field.”

For Achraf Hakimi, the priority now is to determine the severity of his ankle injury, as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco approaches rapidly.
