The future of Azzedine Ounahi seems to be written far from Girona. According to Nil Solà, a journalist from Cadena SER who is particularly well-informed about the Catalan club, the Moroccan international is expected to change teams before the transfer window closes. Ajax Amsterdam is currently the destination that attracts the midfielder the most.
The interest from the Dutch club is already concrete. Fabrizio Romano revealed on July 11 that discussions had opened with Girona and the player’s entourage. Ajax would like to negotiate a fee lower than Ounahi’s release clause, which is estimated at 25 million euros. The Algemeen Dagblad later indicated that the Amsterdam club was hopeful of finalizing the deal.
The presence of Míchel on the Ajax bench could play a decisive role. The Spanish coach, who managed Ounahi at Girona last season, would like to reunite with him in Amsterdam. Gianluigi Longari also reported in mid-July that discussions regarding the Moroccan’s personal terms were very advanced. However, the amount requested by Girona remains the main obstacle, as Ounahi is still under contract until June 2030.
The Atlas Lion was neither in the starting eleven nor on the bench during Girona’s 1-1 draw against Leganés on Sunday, in the first match of the Spanish second division. No official explanation has been provided regarding this absence. While Ajax now appears to be the club in the best position and has the player’s favor, no definitive agreement between the two clubs has yet been announced.
