Azzedine Ounahi has written a new chapter in his personal history, as well as that of Girona FC. After scoring a brace for Morocco against Canada, the Moroccan midfielder has become the first player in the history of the Catalan club to score in a FIFA World Cup.

In this round of 16 match, perfectly controlled by the Atlas Lions, Ounahi quickly demonstrated his importance in the Moroccan setup. His first goal came from a pass by Achraf Hakimi following a free kick, an action well executed by the midfielder, allowing Morocco to take the lead against the host nation.

Already decisive once, Ounahi then confirmed his great evening by scoring a second goal at the end of a perfectly executed counter-attack. The move was initiated by Talbi, before Brahim Díaz made the right choice by intelligently setting up Ounahi, who left the Canadian goalkeeper with no chance to secure his brace.

This performance adds even more significance to Morocco’s qualification for the quarter-finals. Facing a Canadian team buoyed by its home crowd, Morocco responded with seriousness, efficiency, and control at key moments. Ounahi reminded everyone that he remains one of the players capable of turning a high-level match.

Beyond the sporting stakes, this brace also carries historical weight for Girona. By scoring in this World Cup, Azzedine Ounahi becomes the first player from the Spanish club to find the back of the net in the competition. This distinction confirms the special place held by the Moroccan international, both in the national team and within his club.
