Ayyoub Bouaddi could make his debut with Manchester City as early as Friday on the pitch of Crystal Palace, during the second round of the Premier League. Enzo Maresca confirmed on Thursday that the Moroccan international midfielder, who was signed the day before from LOSC, is immediately available.
“He is ready. He was training with his former club, so he is fit,” said the Citizens’ coach at a press conference. Maresca believes it is still to be determined how much time Bouaddi will need to adapt to his new environment, but assures that no physical issues are delaying his integration into the team.
The Italian coach was also impressed by the calmness and maturity of his new recruit. “He doesn’t look his 18 years; he seems older,” he noted, before calling for patience. Despite his early experience at the highest level, particularly with Morocco during the World Cup, Bouaddi will need to get used to a new country, a new league, and new demands.
Maresca aims to protect the young Moroccan from the pressure surrounding his transfer: “It is my job and the club’s to manage him in the best way. He is young and needs time.” However, the Manchester coach remains convinced that Bouaddi can help Manchester City “right now and in the future.” A first appearance at Selhurst Park is therefore possible, although no indication has yet been given regarding a potential starting position.
