Moroccan player Amine Bassi put his team, Houston Dynamo, ahead of visiting FC Dallas, but the home team was unable to hold the lead and lost 2-1 in the Major Soccer League’s opening round. Amin Bassi opened the score with a header in the 18th minute, but defender Ethan Bartlow accidentally gave the visitors the ball in the penalty area, following a pressing from Croatian Peter Musa who scored the equaliser (55′). In the 73rd minute, Bassi showed off a brilliant back-heel pass that found Jack McGlynn, who nearly gave Houston the lead if it were not for the post blocking the attempt. On the other hand, Houston was obviously having serious defensive  issues, particularly in the second goal, where Ecuadorian Anderson Julio outpaced two defenders before defeating the goalkeeper, sealing a 1-2 win for FC Dallas, and three important points for a good start to the season.
