Mohamed Ouahbi is preparing to launch a new chapter with the Lions of the Atlas. The national coach will hold a press conference on Thursday, September 17, starting at 11:00 AM, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, to present the list of players called up for Morocco’s next two matches.
This gathering will mark the beginning of the Lions’ campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco will first host Gabon on September 25 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, before traveling four days later to South Africa to face Lesotho on September 29 in Bloemfontein. The two matches correspond to the first and second matchdays of Group A.
This press conference will be particularly closely followed, as several of Mohamed Ouahbi’s choices will be scrutinized. The coach will notably have to deal with the situation of Sofyan Amrabat, who recently announced that he did not wish to join the national team under the current management, while clarifying that he was not ending his international career.
After Morocco’s performance in the 2026 World Cup, which ended in the quarter-finals against France, Ouahbi emphasized his desire to continue renewing the team and to keep the Lions among the best national teams in the world. The list unveiled on Thursday will therefore provide initial indications of his choices for this new cycle, with an eye on the 2027 AFCON, to be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
