Noussair Mazraoui will not continue with the Atlas Lions gathering. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed that the Moroccan defender, absent from Thursday evening’s training session, will join Manchester United this Friday.
The Moroccan national team trained on Thursday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, three days ahead of the friendly match against Mali. The session, scheduled for 6:00 PM and lasting 90 minutes, took place with the entire group, except for Mazraoui. The FRMF specified that the player was “given a rest” before his return to England.
This decision comes after the early exit of the Manchester United player against Lesotho on Tuesday, during Morocco’s victory (2-0). Mazraoui had to leave the pitch in the 69th minute after feeling pain. However, the Federation did not provide any specific diagnosis or mention a potential duration of unavailability.
Mazraoui will therefore miss the next match of the Atlas Lions, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, against Mali at the Grand Stade de Tanger. The kick-off for this friendly match will be at 6:00 PM GMT.
His early return to Manchester should allow the Moroccan full-back to continue his recovery and be attended to by the medical staff of Manchester United, while the exact nature of his injury remains to be clarified.
