Nayef Aguerd did not accompany the Lions of the Atlas to South Africa, where the Moroccan team is preparing for their upcoming match against Lesotho in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The defender is currently continuing his recovery protocol at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation clarified this Sunday that the Moroccan international remained in Maâmora to continue his competitive recovery work alongside the technical staff of the U23 national team.
This decision should allow Aguerd to gradually continue his conditioning before a possible return with the Lions. The FRMF also indicates that the defender remains available for the senior national team in view of the friendly match against Ghana, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at the Grand Stadium of Tangier.
His absence from the trip to South Africa does not necessarily mean that he will miss the rest of the gathering. His progress in the coming days will determine his availability for the match against the Black Stars.
Meanwhile, the group that arrived in Bloemfontein continued their preparation on Sunday with a training session organized at 3 PM. The Federation specifies that all players present on site participated in it.
