The departure of Neil El Aynaoui to RB Leipzig is becoming clearer. On the eve of AS Roma’s trip to Lecce, Gian Piero Gasperini explained that the Moroccan international midfielder wanted to experience something new, especially as his role in the Roma rotation had diminished.
“El Aynaoui played very well until December,” the Italian coach first noted. According to him, the player faced more difficulties after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations. Gasperini also mentioned the increased expectations following the World Cup, as well as the progress of Niccolò Pisilli, the consistency of Bryan Cristante, and the importance of Manu Koné in midfield.
“I had the feeling that he wanted to find a stronger experience,” the coach continued. Gasperini believes that this move could allow El Aynaoui to develop in an environment where he will feel more valued. Roma, for its part, wants to rely on players who are fully happy to defend its colors while also freeing up financial space to strengthen other areas.
The Moroccan is not included in the squad for the match against Lecce, confirming the imminent nature of his transfer. While awaiting announcements from both clubs, the agreement with Leipzig is said to involve a paid loan of 4 million euros, accompanied by a purchase option of 25 million and a percentage on any future resale.
