Azzedine Ounahi’s future could be written in the Netherlands. According to information from Fabrizio Romano, Ajax Amsterdam has begun discussions with Girona to recruit the Moroccan international during this summer transfer window. However, no agreement has been reached at this stage, with negotiations still ongoing.
Under contract with the Catalan club until 2030, Ounahi has a release clause estimated at 25 million euros. Nevertheless, Ajax hopes to convince Girona to part with their midfielder for a lower amount, particularly taking advantage of the Spanish club’s relegation to the second division. The performances of the Lion of the Atlas during the 2026 World Cup have boosted his market value.
Arriving at Girona in the summer of 2025 from Olympique de Marseille for a fee of around 6 million euros, Ounahi could already bring a significant profit to his current club. During this sale, OM had taken care to negotiate a percentage on a future resale, which would allow the Marseille club to recover part of the amount from a potential transfer. However, the exact percentage has never been made public.
At 26 years old, the Moroccan midfielder could thus discover a fourth European league after France, Greece, and Spain. It remains to be seen whether Ajax will manage to reach an agreement with Girona to secure the services of one of the key players in Morocco’s journey during the World Cup.
