One week after his remarkable hat-trick against Elche, Yassir Zabiri was unable to officially find the net this Saturday. Starting at the forefront of the attack for Racing Santander, the Moroccan international played the entire match lost to Rayo Vallecano (3-2) during the fourth round of La Liga.
The 21-year-old forward was useful from the very first minutes. He earned the free kick converted by Sergio Canales to open the scoring in the 4th minute. After Andrei Ratiu equalized, Pablo García restored the lead for Racing, before Sergio Camello’s brace allowed Rayo to turn the match around.
Zabiri thought he had equalized in the 78th minute by sending the ball into the back of the net. However, his goal was disallowed due to a foul attributed to Jeanuël Belocian on goalkeeper Dani Cárdenas. This decision was contested by Racing’s coach, José Alberto López, who asserted that his defender had not touched the opposing goalkeeper.
Even though he did not add another goal to his tally, the Moroccan still had an impact on the opposing defense. Zabiri remains at three goals in La Liga this season, all scored during his hat-trick against Elche.
