Morocco is set to make its appearance in the U17 Gulf Cup soon. Jassim Al-Rumaihi, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cup Football Union, confirmed the future participation of the Atlas Lion Cubs in this competition, which is typically reserved for teams from the Gulf region.
The official spoke on Tuesday in Jeddah during a press conference held on the sidelines of the Gulf Cup for senior teams. He indicated that the opening of certain youth competitions to nations outside the region is part of the new direction adopted by the organization, specifically mentioning Morocco and Egypt.
However, Morocco’s participation will not concern the 2026 edition scheduled to take place in Qatar from October 16 to November 4. The tournament will feature ten teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, and Yemen, along with two invited teams, Egypt and China. The draw for this edition has already been conducted.
Regarding a potential participation of Morocco in the Gulf Cup for senior teams, no decision has been made at this stage. Jassim Al-Rumaihi, however, left the door open for this possibility in the future, while reminding that the senior competition currently retains its regional identity.
This invitation represents a new opportunity for young Moroccan internationals to compete against opponents from other confederations and to diversify their preparation on the international stage.
