It is now confirmed: Azzedine Ounahi is back at Panathinaikos. The Greek club announced the return of the Moroccan international on Wednesday evening through a video posted on its social media, accompanied by an unequivocal message: “The magic is back.”
The 26-year-old midfielder leaves Girona to return to a team he represented during the 2024-2025 season, as part of a loan from Olympique de Marseille. After delivering impressive performances during his first stint in Athens, Ounahi quickly won over the club’s supporters.
The financial details have not yet been officially disclosed. According to L’Équipe, the deal is expected to take the form of a permanent transfer worth around 15 million euros. Girona may also retain a percentage on a future resale.
Olympique de Marseille should benefit from this transfer due to a clause regarding 30% of the profit made by Girona. The Phocaean club could thus receive nearly 2.7 million euros. For Ounahi, this return to Panathinaikos marks the beginning of a new chapter in an environment he already knows well.
