Gessime Yassine was beaming after securing victory for RC Strasbourg against Lens (2-1) during the second round of Ligue 1. Starting the match and substituted in the 90th minute, the Moroccan international scored his first two goals in the top flight at the 48th and 85th minutes. He described this first double of his career as a crazy moment, while assuring that he wants to continue working without considering this success as an endpoint.
Asked about his second goal, scored with a right-footed volley, the left-footer joked: “Even I am discovering that I have a right foot.” Yassine then explained that his coach had emphasized during the week the need to shoot quickly with the weaker foot and to close down the far post. “When you listen to the coach, it always works,” he added to Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace.
The Moroccan also acknowledged that he finished the match exhausted due to the pace set and the quality of the opponent. He explained that he gave his all for the Strasbourg jersey and hopes to gradually be able to handle the entirety of such matches. After the heavy defeat suffered against Marseille (4-0), Yassine highlighted the importance of reacting at the Meinau and being present in front of the supporters.
Speaking to Ligue 1+, the 20-year-old player finally dedicated his performance to his mother: “If I am here, it is entirely thanks to her.” After being compared to Hatem Ben Arfa by Abou Diaby, Yassine also expressed his pride: “When I am told that I resemble him, it makes me very happy.” A successful evening on all fronts for the Lion of the Atlas, now launched in Ligue 1.
