Yassir Zabiri did not take long to make an impact in his new colors. The Moroccan international forward scored his first goal with Racing Santander on Friday, helping the team to a 4-1 victory over Sporting Gijón in a friendly match.
Starting under José Alberto for his first appearance with the Cantabrian club, Zabiri found the net in the 45th minute. Following a cross from the right by Diego Díaz, the Moroccan expertly connected with the ball to score his team’s third goal just before halftime. Racing was leading 3-1 at that point, despite having conceded the opening goal just one minute into the match.
The 21-year-old player then left the pitch during the second half. In this debut, he immediately opened his scoring account and contributed to Racing’s comprehensive victory as the team continues its preparations ahead of their return to La Liga. The Santander club will indeed rejoin the Spanish top flight this season after a fourteen-year absence.
Arriving this summer from Stade Rennais, Zabiri is on loan to Racing until June 30, 2027, without an option to buy. The Breton club is counting on this experience in Spain to allow him to gain playing time. A U20 World Champion with Morocco in 2025, the former Famalicão player is thus making a promising start ahead of the official season launch.
