2026 World Cup: The Atlas Lions fine-tune before facing the Netherlands

The Atlas Lions continue their preparation in Monterrey ahead of their Round of 16 match in the 2026 World Cup against the Netherlands. Arriving in Mexico after securing their qualification for the knockout stage, the Moroccan team is now entering the final stretch before one of the major events of this early knockout phase.

On Saturday, June 27, the players of Mohamed Ouahbi held a training session on the pitch of the Estadio Universitario de la UANL. This is an important workout for the national staff, just days before a match where tactical details, effort management, and concentration will play a crucial role.

This session allowed the Atlas Lions to make final adjustments before facing a Dutch team that topped its group. The Netherlands approaches this encounter with a strong status, but Morocco also arrives with its own arguments, buoyed by its performance in the group stage and a generation accustomed to high-stakes matches.

The clash between the two teams is scheduled for the night of Monday, June 29 to Tuesday, June 30, at 2:00 AM Moroccan time, at the Monterrey Stadium. This is a knockout match: the winner will continue their journey in the 2026 World Cup, while the loser will exit the competition.

For the Atlas Lions, the objective is clear: to extend their journey and confirm their place among the most competitive nations in the tournament. Against the Netherlands, Mohamed Ouahbi will need to find the right balance between defensive solidity, midfield control, and offensive efficiency.

This match also has a special dimension due to the strong ties between Moroccan and Dutch football. Several Moroccan players have been trained or have played in the Netherlands, giving this confrontation a unique flavor. But on the field, only qualification will matter.

In Monterrey, the Atlas Lions are thus fine-tuning the last details before a highly anticipated encounter. After advancing past the group stage, Morocco now aims to succeed in the knockout matches and continue to excite its supporters.
