Zakaria El Ouahdi experienced an emotional evening on Friday, following Genk’s decisive victory over SK Beveren (4-0) in the fourth round of the Jupiler Pro League. As he bid farewell to the supporters at the Cegeka Arena, the Moroccan defender could not hold back his tears, giving the impression that he had played his last match in the colors of the Belgian club.
As a starter, El Ouahdi made a decisive contribution as early as the 6th minute by winning the penalty converted by Rafiu Durosinmi. He was then substituted in the 85th minute by Kevin Amaro. Junya Ito, Josue Kongolo, and Joris Kayembe scored the other three goals for Genk.
These images come as the 24-year-old player is nearing a move to Hamburger SV. El Ouahdi is said to have already reached an agreement with the German club for a five-year contract, but Genk and Hamburg still need to finalize the deal. His departure is therefore not yet official, although his particularly emotional farewell seems to confirm an imminent outcome.
