Younes Ebnoutalib has perfectly launched his official season with Eintracht Frankfurt. Starting against SC St. Tönis, a fifth-division team, the German-Moroccan forward scored a goal and provided an assist during his team’s historic victory (0-11) in the round of 32 of the German Cup.
Ebnoutalib first turned into a provider for Can Uzun in the 36th minute, allowing Frankfurt to extend the score to 6-0. He then found the back of the net in stoppage time of the first half, at 45+1, to score his team’s ninth goal. Remaining on the field until the final whistle, the 22-year-old player participated in the entire match.
Eintracht was already leading 10-0 at halftime, establishing the largest advantage ever recorded at halftime in a German Cup match. Jonathan Burkardt notably scored a hat-trick, while Can Uzun netted a brace. Farès Chaïbi scored the only goal of the second half in the 87th minute, sealing Frankfurt’s qualification for the next round.
This performance represents an encouraging signal for Ebnoutalib, whose first months in Frankfurt were disrupted by an injury to the internal ligament of his knee. Arriving from Elversberg last January after scoring 12 goals in 17 matches in the second division, he found the net in his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Dortmund. Scoring and assisting in the first official match of the new season, the player of Moroccan origin is already making a case for himself in Adi Hütter’s offensive hierarchy.
