Thorup discusses the Bencharki effect and ambition against AS FAR

After Al Ahly’s resounding 4-1 victory against Algeria’s JS Kabylie, Al Ahly coach Jess Thorup praised Moroccan player Achraf Bencharki during the press conference. The Danish coach also revealed his ambition to secure an away victory in the upcoming match against AS FAR in Rabat.

Thorup unveiled the secret behind Bencharki’s remarkable performance in recent matches. The Danish tactician attributed this brilliance to the freedom he has granted the Moroccan player on the field and the instructions he provided during their conversations.

“The combination of Achraf Bencharki and Mohamed Hany performed well, delivering good crosses and creating several goal-scoring opportunities. This is not new for Bencharki, as he has had an outstanding performance in previous matches and scored a stunning goal against Zamalek. I have had good conversations with Bencharki recently about what he should do to deliver a better performance. He is a player who needs more freedom on the field because he possesses great offensive qualities, and as you can see now, he is a great player who excels even more.”

On the other hand, the Al Ahly coach expressed his ambition to secure another victory in the Champions League, this time in the heart of the Moroccan capital, Rabat, where he will face AS FAR. He emphasized that he would work on selecting the ideal and most appropriate combination to achieve this ambition.

“We have enough time, six days separate us from the next confrontation (against AS FAR), and we will have several training sessions. I want to ensure that I choose the best possible lineup that is most capable of winning away against the Moroccan team. This does not mean that I will play with the same team that faced JS Kabylie, but rather I will rely on the players’ performances in training throughout the week.”
