Raja Casablanca was eliminated from the CAF Champions League this Sunday, despite a 1-0 victory over the Congolese club AS Maniema Union at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. This match, which was part of the final round of Group B, did not allow the Greens to qualify, as they depended not only on a good result of their own but also on a favorable outcome from AS FAR.
The Raja club benefited from a turning point by playing with a numerical advantage from the 41st minute, after the expulsion of Taboria Simete from AS Maniema Union. Then, a penalty converted by Adam Ennaffati in the 45+5th minute allowed Raja to take the lead just before halftime. Despite this numerical superiority, Diego Martínez’s men were unable to extend their lead and scored only one goal.
At the same time, Raja was hoping for a favorable result from AS FAR, who needed to win and, if possible, by a large margin to give qualification to the Casablanca club. However, Hubert Velud’s AS FAR side was held to a 1-1 draw by Sundowns, conceding a goal in the 12th minute and equalizing in the 85th minute through Zouhzouh.
Ultimately, with this result, Raja finished in 3rd place in the group, behind AS FAR and Sundowns.
