Tawfik Bentayeb once again made an impression with Anderlecht. Starting on Saturday night against Zulte Waregem during the 7th round of the Pro League, the Moroccan striker significantly contributed to the Mauves’ 3-0 victory at Lotto Park, with one goal and one assist, before having to leave his teammates due to injury.
Very active on the attack front, Bentayeb opened the scoring in the 40th minute. After a shot from Lukas Ambros that was poorly cleared by goalkeeper Louis Bostyn, the Moroccan perfectly followed the play to seize the ball and score. He thus confirms his excellent start with Anderlecht by netting his second consecutive goal in the league, having already secured victory for his team against Mechelen in the previous round.
Bentayeb was again decisive right after the break. In the 48th minute, his header deflection allowed Marten Winkler to score Anderlecht’s second goal. However, during this action, the Moroccan striker suffered a heavy collision with Laurent Lemoine and remained on the ground for several moments. Despite the contact, he attempted to continue the match and even assisted Winkler in the play leading to the third goal, scored in the 54th minute. Bentayeb was ultimately substituted in the 55th minute for Mihajlo Cvetkovic.
The main concern now is his physical condition. After the match, Anderlecht coach Vítor Bruno indicated that Bentayeb had been taken to the hospital and that an examination would provide more information about the nature of his injury. “Bentayeb has been taken to the hospital. We will wait to see what the MRI says,” explained the coach. Despite everything, Anderlecht finished the evening with three valuable points and temporarily climbed to 5th place with 13 points, while Zulte Waregem has 11 points.
