Soufiane Rahimi experienced a particularly emotional moment this Friday during Morocco’s victory against Gabon. Coming on during the match, the Atlas Lions striker scored Morocco’s second goal in the 84th minute before paying tribute to his father, who passed away a few weeks earlier.
After finding the back of the net, Rahimi took out and held up a photo in memory of his father in front of the cameras. It was a celebration filled with emotion for the Moroccan international, who has been deeply affected by this loss that occurred at the beginning of September.
On the sporting front, his goal allowed Morocco to double their lead after Noussair Mazraoui opened the scoring in the 36th minute. The Atlas Lions ultimately won 2-0 against Gabon in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mohamed Rahimi, father of Soufiane and Houcine Rahimi, was a well-known figure in Raja Casablanca, a club to which he dedicated several decades. His passing also prompted numerous tributes within Moroccan football.
