Saibari: Bayern reveals Kompany’s role in his recruitment

Bayern Munich had Ismaël Saibari in its sights long before taking action during the last transfer window. In an interview with BILD, Max Eberl unveiled the behind-the-scenes details of the recruitment of the Moroccan international, particularly the role played by Vincent Kompany in accelerating the process.

The Bavarian sporting director explains that Bayern had been monitoring Saibari’s performances at PSV Eindhoven for some time. At that time, the German club was considering two different options to strengthen its attacking line: Anthony Gordon and the Moroccan. The former was ultimately abandoned due to the cost deemed too high for the English international.

However, interest in Saibari truly gained momentum after a Champions League match between PSV and Bayern in Eindhoven. After the match, Vincent Kompany personally spoke with the Atlas Lion. This discussion seems to have reinforced the Belgian coach’s interest in the player.

“After our Champions League match in Eindhoven, Vinnie spoke with Ismael. Then he came to see me and asked, ‘Do we already know him?’ I replied, ‘Yes,’” Eberl recounts. The official specifies that Bayern then continued to observe Saibari much more closely before deciding to recruit him during the summer.

These revelations mainly show that the Moroccan’s arrival in Bavaria is not the result of a hasty decision. Saibari had been under long-term observation, and his profile had already convinced several people internally months before his transfer. Recruited for a sum close to 50 million euros, the former PSV player is now expected to settle permanently into Vincent Kompany’s project.
