River Plate takes action for Yassine Bounou

River Plate’s interest in Yassine Bounou has taken on a new dimension. The Argentine club has reportedly begun discussions with the Moroccan international goalkeeper’s entourage to inquire about his situation at Al-Hilal and the conditions for a possible arrival in Argentina.

According to information from Argentine journalist Hernán Castillo, River is anticipating a possible departure of its young goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán and has made Bounou its priority to succeed him. The Atlas Lions goalkeeper is currently considered the only profile truly targeted by the Buenos Aires club. Goal reports that he is seen as “the first, second, and third choice” for River for the position.

At this stage, however, the exchanges remain preliminary. River Plate has not yet opened formal negotiations with Al-Hilal but is primarily seeking to understand Bounou’s intentions and the feasibility of a transfer. A potential move seems more likely to be considered for 2027, especially if Santiago Beltrán were to leave the Argentine club.

The main difficulty remains the Moroccan’s contractual situation, as he is tied to Al-Hilal until 2028. River obviously does not have the same financial means as the Saudi club, and any potential arrival of Bounou would therefore also depend on the conditions of his departure. The Moroccan goalkeeper has never hidden his attachment to River Plate and had left the door open after the 2026 World Cup: “It does not depend on me, but if the opportunity arises at some point, it would be a good thing.”
